Accurate cutting can sometimes be the most difficult part for new quilters. We have gathered a set of rulers and patterns that work in combination, or alone, that will guide beginners through the quilt making process. Starting with the easiest and working up to a more intermediate pattern, this set of table toppers and runners are quicker to make than an entire quilt but equally satisfying when finished. This is a great series for those who love to decorate their home but don’t want to dive into an entire quilt to start.
Quilt shops can purchase these rulers at www.Checkerdist.com and consumers can visit their local quilt shop.

Lesson 1:
Ruler #1- CGRDH1 Creative Grids® Cat’s Cradle Tool designed by Deb Heatherly for use with the Cut Loose Press™ pattern ‘Cats on the Table’ CLPDHE001
The ruler makes easy work of what could be a difficult block to make. You will get perfect triangles every time and this Cat’s Cradle inspired runner will go together like a breeze. You will be able to concentrate on ‘nesting’ the seams and sewing an accurate 1/4”. You will also get practice cutting strips and squares for the sashing so it’s the best of both worlds.
Lesson 2:
Ruler #1 AND #2 CGRDH2 Creative Grids® Strippy Stars Tool designed by Deb Heatherly for use with The Cut Loose Press™ pattern ‘Cat’s Cradle Star' CLPDHE015
For this pattern you will gain more practice with the Cat’s Cradle block and add ‘Floating Star Points’ to your arsenal. The difficulty of this pattern would lie in the cutting if it weren’t for the rulers. With the rulers, your triangles turn out perfect every time for easy sewing. You will feel like a master after just two lessons.
Lesson 3:
Ruler #2 for use with the Cut Loose Press™ pattern ‘Strippy Stars Mini’ CLPDHE006
More practice with Ruler #2, and more practice cutting strips and squares.
Lesson 4:
Ruler #2 AND #3 CGRJAWMN6 Creative Grids® 6” Log Cabin Trim Tool designed by Jean Ann Wright for use with the Cut Loose Press™ pattern ‘Log Cabin Nights’ CLPPHA010
A log cabin block without a ruler is very difficult to make ‘square’. Each strip that is sewn on adds the risk of making the block wonky. The ruler however has you trimming after each piece is added which means that the block will come out perfectly every time. It will be square and the correct size.

Visit your local quilt shop for more information.
Tips For teachers:
*Make this a series of (6) 3- or 4-hour classes for a set cost to include the patterns and rulers.
*Work on the new pattern for the first 4 classes and use the 5th and 6th classes to finish up any of the projects (top only) that need finishing and help where needed.
*Create a separate class for quilting your quilt and binding.
*Make sure students understand that they will be completing 4 small quilt tops and will have 3 rulers with many more pattern opportunities.
*Let them know that their rulers have great tutorial videos at the Creative Grids® website.
You can always buy the patterns alone. Some of them will be of no use to you if you don’t have the rulers. The rulers are intended to make cutting easier and more accurate. They are a tool that, once learned, can be used again and again for a variety of patterns.
